- The en dash is Unicode U+2013 (En Dash).
- In HTML, type
–to get –. - On Windows, hold Alt and type 0150 on the numeric keypad.
- On a Mac, press Option+Hyphen.
- It is a single character: it survives copy and paste into any text field and counts as one character against limits.
The en dash connects ranges: pages 12–34, the 2019–2020 season, a Boston–London flight. It is half the width of an em dash and longer than a hyphen. Most word processors autocorrect a spaced hyphen into one, but plain text fields do not.
