Capital delta conventionally means change or difference, as in ΔT for a temperature change. Lowercase delta appears in calculus and chemistry. Note that the Mac shortcut Option+J types the math increment sign U+2206, a lookalike of the Greek capital, and ∂ is the distinct partial-derivative sign.
